PRACTICAL MATTERS

• Do I get my grades transferred to my KEA transcript?

  As a rule you need to complete the equivalent of 30 ECTS when you go on exchange. Once you’ve completed all your exams abroad and received a transcript to prove the passed exams, the 30 ECTS will transfer to your KEA degree.

• What about insurance?

  If you travel in Europe, you must get a blue European health insurance card from your Citizen Service (Borgerservice). You can apply for the blue health insurance card online.

  You should also check the conditions of your private travel health insurance. Make sure that you can be transported back to Denmark in case of serious illness. You might have to upgrade your existing insurance in order to get appropriate coverage.

  If you go overseas, your host school will ask you to pay for a student health insurance. Some partner institutions (for example in Australia) will require that you buy their specific policy while others will accept proof of insurance from other sources.

  We also recommend that you carry out some kind of liability insurance and insurance against theft, e.g. if your computer gets stolen or similar.

  KEA has no liability or responsibility for the outgoing exchange students’ insurance coverage.

• Can I take my internship abroad?

  All of KEA’s programs allow for students to do their internship abroad. You can learn more about this option here (link to internships abroad).

• What is the Coronavirus situation at my destination?

  KEA students going abroad on exchange need to make sure they regularly check up on travel restrictions and health regulations in their destination country.

  In most cases the host institution will inform you about current regulations and travel restrictions, but if in doubt make sure you ask your contact at the relevant institution. 

  Keep an open mind and be aware that institutions abroad might still be affected by the pandemic to some extend as this has played out very differently in different parts of the world. 

  The KEA Global Office are doing their best in keeping up-to-date with events and updates across the world and will communicate as well as possible any relevant information to outgoing exchange students.

Grants and Scholarships

• SU

  If you are eligible for SU, then you can bring that (and your SU-loan) with you abroad. The monthly SU rates when you study abroad are the same as the “udeboende SU”. Please note that you will not be able to bring your SU with you abroad if you are under a work requirement rule (EU citizens). If you are in doubt whether you are able to get SU on exchange, please ask your local KEA administration.

• Erasmus+

  If you are going to spend a semester at one of KEA's Erasmus+ partner universities or if you are doing your internship at an EU located internship host, you are eligible to receive an Erasmus+ grant. The grant doesn't depend on your nationality.

  The Erasmus+ grant varies from destination to destination, but is between 490 and 670 EUR per full month depending on the location of your exchange or internship. Your International Coordinator will inform you about the Erasmus+ procedure once you’ve been accepted to your exchange institution or internship. 

  The entire grant will be paid upfront to your NemKonto, before the start of the semester abroad.

• Fundraising and private grants

  Studying abroad is an amazing chance to discover the world and learn about different cultures, new learning styles and not least learn about yourself. 

  However, studying abroad can also be an expensive experience and before you go you need to carefully consider the costs and if you can effort spending a semester abroad.

  Unfortunately, KEA is not able to co-finance your stay abroad, except from the Erasmus+ grant already mentioned on this site. 

  Therefore, you might want to explore the options of raising financial support through private grants and funds.

  Fundraising can, and will most likely be a time-consuming job to you, but it might be worth the while if you secure funding which means that you are able to realise your dreams of studying abroad. 

  Before you start your fundraising you will need to gather a number of documents that will be mandatory uploads or attachments to more or less all grant applications: 

  • Curriculum Vitae (CV)
  • Letter of Acceptance (from your host institution)
  • Transcript of Records (from your current education)
  • Budget
  • Letter of Recommendation - Both Academical and Professional
  • Motivational Letter

  We will recommend you to start looking for relevant foundations providing  grants at www.legatbogen.dk which is biggest database for grants in Denmark.

  Another place to start your research is fonde.dk. The database is free to use for all KEA students. Get access to the database with your KEA email via WAYF Login.  

  Most of the grants listed in legatbogen and on fonde.dk are specifically targeted towards Danish students while others are open for all nationalities. 

  Once a semester, KEA holds a fundraising workshop (in Danish). When and where will be announced by your International Coordinator and on mitkea.dk.
