Workshop Description
The seventh edition of the SENAC + KEA Workshop took as its theme to discuss how the city's gastronomic rituals constitute and help to transform the culture of places and their inhabitants.
In a multifaceted metropolis like São Paulo, the most important economic center of Brazil, we find in architecture, arts and gastronomy inheritances of more than 70 nationalities.
Known for preserving its traditions, the most populous city in Brazil, with 12, 2 million inhabitants, is endowed with rich and diverse gastronomy, bringing together the cuisine of 52 countries in more than 15 thousand restaurants and 20 thousand bars, for all tastes and all pockets.
Famous for the food trucks and little fairs, that take their streets and parks, the city, like several other metropolis of the whole world, perceives in the events, permanent or sporadic, programmed for gastronomic experiences, a unique and original opportunity of approaching and gathering its inhabitants and visitors into a relaxed, informal, collective and urban adventure.
A common habit among Brazilians, the meal with co-workers, friends, and family, is a way of commune with acquaintances and strangers, as well as being an invitation to exchange knowledge and flavors.
Thinking about these aspects, the Workshop proposes its participants to observe the places of the city related to the gastronomic experiences (as a service or as leisure, as a trade or cultural space), analyzing its operation and conditions to propose interventions, alternatives and innovations that prestige and encourage urban meetings and exchanges between those who live in the city of São Paulo.
