Manchester is one of the most popular of the Northern Cities in the UK. It is known for its football (Manchester United and Manchester City), its music (the Bee Gees, The Smiths, New Order, Joy Division and Oasis originated here), its industrial past (many industrial buildings have been repurposed into museums, music venues and apartments), and it was curiously also the home of Alan Turing (who invented the computer).
