Some years ago, when the Hochschule Ostwestfalen-Lippe, also called Hochschule OWL, had to get a new campus, their own architecture students took part in the architects’ competition – and they won!

In other words, the campus was designed by students for students, and you can feel it when you enter the main building, which fosters creativity with its light atmosphere, all its workshops, labs and material collections. Students are building prototype models in the working spaces, and you can always get in touch with the professors who have their transparent offices in the middle of each classroom. The architect students share the campus with interior architecture students, who also display products on campus. The teaching is in German, and the city of Lemgo is a small medieval town, so this school is probably mostly for students who want to immerse themselves into real German culture and language. But don’t be fooled – Hochschule OWL has popped out several architects who gained international fame. In Germany, great schools often lie outside the metropolitan areas.
